Ages 10-12 Day Camp – A.M. or P.M.
Times 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Week 1 First meeting, students will arrive at (park) at (time). to meet their Naturalist. This week will be spent meeting and getting to know the other students in the group by using play to learn more about each other and yourself while making new friends. Included this week will be nature play, hikes, and beach activities.
Beach Activities can include- tidal zone lesson, how waves are formed, art in the sand, tide pooling, and boogie boarding.
Week 2 Theme of the week is Camp Skills/Survival, activities can include – hiking while navigating, fire building/fire safety, cooking, orienteering, shelter building, filtering water, whittling, and knots you need to know.
Week 3 Theme of the week is Mountains and Human Environmental Impact – hiking, navigation, physical fitness, geology, stream study, trash time-line, nature games, wildlife spotting, and plant I.D. Highlights this week will focus on stewardship and water conservation activities as well.
Week 4 Art and cordage making- Learn about the practices of famous nature artists and photographers and try to make your own version of their style of art. Activities can include –making cordage from plants, nature sculptures, leaf pressing, jewelry making, and photography.
Week 5 Fun with Field Games- students will laugh and play all day with various activities that get students to raise their heart rates, sharpen their senses, and gain confidence in the outdoors. Learning to communicate with others and utilize teamwork are just a few skills students will gain.
Week 6 Wildlife in the Wilderness Exploration- Taking a hike through the Canyons and Hill tops of Ventura can display the various ecosystems that one can walk through in a single day. Students will sharpen their senses as they learn to spot birds, plants, and other wildlife in the various ecosystems and gain a greater appreciation for their local habitats.
